Maps And Guide Books: How I Travel

I’m old fashioned in the sense that I still love to have maps.  Hard copy maps that is.  Not maps on my phone.  I like plotting out where I have been/where I am going.

I like having the memories and I also find hard copy maps more reliable than google maps on my iPhone.

I’ve only had to use google maps once when I got lost trying to find my hostel in Amsterdam.

Most of the time I’m able to commit the map/area to memory and if I get lost I just look for something familiar.

I love looking at maps and guide books and thinking about where I’ll be going and drawing on the maps to show the route I have taken.  It’s amazing for those memories further down the track.

I’ve always preferred books to reading on kindle and having a guide books is just great.  I love being able to look through and mark the pages I’ll go back to.

What about you? Are you a guide book/map person or a google maps person?

I’ve just applied for my working visa for next year – super excited.  3 months to go!  I arrive 30th December in London, so trying to think of things to do that weekend since it’s New Years.  Any tips?
