My Favourite Coats For Winter

Since it was the first day of Winter in New Zealand yesterday, I thought that I would write a post about my favourite coats for Winter.  I know a lot of you lucky people in the Northern Hemisphere are enjoying the start of your Summer…and I am completely jealous about that! It has been quite warm for the beginning of Winter…which is a surprise!  I didn’t even need a coat today!

1) Black Paddington Coat

This Paddington Coat has been in my wardrobe for yonks.  I have worn it consistently since 2007.  I got it for my first holiday to Europe (Spain, Netherlands and Germany) with the family when I was 17.  Black coats are classic and can be worn with anything.  They are, I believe, one of the must-haves in any girls (or guys) wardrobe. I wear this coat with anything – jeans, skirts, dresses, boots, flats, heels.  This coat is actually from the Paddington Coat Factory (that used to be in Albany on the North Shore of Aucks – but I think it has since closed down or moved).

2) White Woollen Trench Style Coat

This is a gorgeous woollen coat from Glassons.  Like I said in the post about my favourite Spring/Autumn coats, Glassons does, at times, have good quality clothing.  This one is (I think) 100% Wool.  I got it as a gift.  I love wearing this with dresses that are a bit shorter than the coat (it reaches just above my knees) and black stockings.  Very Kate Middleton I think. Or I wear it with Jeans.

3) Faux Fur Coat – Sophia of Melbourne.

This was a massive find for me at the local Savemart (op shop that is pretty much full of junk clothes).  They have a ‘Burlesque and Dress Up Area’, so I usually head straight to the back of the shop where this section is (no, I am not a secret burlesque dancer).  I believe this is from the 1970s – judging by the tag.

I normally wear this with skinny jeans (darker coloured ones) or a dress/skirt.  This is my ‘going out to a nice place’ coat. However, I am going to try to wear it more often as it is gathering dust at the back of my wardrobe (metaphorically speaking).

4) Leather Jacket

This jacket, from Glassons, was featured in my post about my favourite Spring/Autumn coats.  I like to pair this with my vintage dresses and combat boots or heeled ankle boots.  While it is not as warm as my woolen coats, it is still something good to wear when going out.  It is not too heavy and isn’t too big to carry around.

5) Burnt Orange Vintage Coat

I bought this on a few years ago.  It is a Vintage coat from the 1980s.  It has the telltale shoulder pads, cute (slightly glittery) buttons and a little bicycle pin on the lapel that was thrown in for free!

I love pairing this coat with my navy blue dress (with a fan pattern).  I think blue and orange suit each other.
