There is so much junk/rubbish in the Savemart stores. However, once you get past that you can find some pretty good stuff. At the Savemart in Northcote, I found that the best stuff is actually in the ‘dressup’ area – so retro, vintage and other really cool accessories can be found there. I have found fur coats, 60s dresses, Chinese dressing gowns etc. My best buy? Fur coat from the 70s (it’s faux fur, which is the only fur I would buy). Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to wear it yet!
2) Recycle Boutique – Auckland City:
It is more pricey than Savemart, but there is less junk in there. Every time I go there, I find amazing clothes. There is a ‘vintage/retro’ section, and also more modern clothes.
Best buy: Crop pants from New Look.
3) Takapuna Opshop:
This shop is tiny. I haven’t found any clothes in there lately, but they do have a good selection of shoes and accessories. I bought a gorgeous pencil skirt in there once – black and white stripes with a big bow on the back. I always get compliments every time I wear it.
4) Paperbag Princess:
This one is like Recycle Boutique. Lots of amazing clothes in there. More of a range of vintage though (I think).
It is on K-Rd. There are lots of opshops up there and so many that could go on this list, if the list was longer! Dedicate at least half a day to the opshops on K-Rd. It is also known as the red light district.
Best buy: Blue crop tie front top. How else can I describe it?
BEST SHOP EVER!! This shop is heaven for me. The dresses are vintage, but reconstructed to a more modern look. Beautiful fabrics. They also have blouses and crops that tie at the front. See photo below.
I can’t say my best buy, because every purchase from Smoove = my favourite.
So, there you go, my top 5. A hard list to make because there certainly are more than five!
What I wore today:
– I’ve put this outfit on here before because I bought these shorts on ebay and wanted to show everyone.
Waiting for my sister to come over for tea and Ontbijtkoek.
And my dog owns the biggest tennis ball ever!
Top: Smoove vintage tie top
Shorts: 1950s Wrangler – ebay purchase
Shoes: Number One Shoes – retro style wedges
Sunnies: Paddington Market, Melbourne
